This chapter contains the following:
Preparing your phone to use Simtext
Before joining Simtext, please ensure:
1. Your GPRS settings are correctly configured (see 'Testing your
GPRS settings' below).
2. You have sufficient calling credit on your mobile (if you are a prepay
mobile user).
Testing your GPRS settings:
If you can view internet (WAP) pages such as www.bbc.co.uk on your mobile then your GPRS settings are correctly configured. If you are still not sure whether your settings are correct, and would like to test them, follow these instructions:
First open the flap on your phone and choose 'internet'. Then choose
'internet' on the menu bar followed by 'open page'. Type a website to
connect to (eg www.bbc.co.uk) If you can see the site you entered once
you have made a connection, your GPRS settings are correctly configured.
If you are unable to see the site you entered, and you have not downloaded
WAP pages onto your mobile before, your settings may not be configured
correctly. If so, contact your service provider for further assistance,
you may wish to have new settings sent to your phone using this WAP
configurator.
Checking your calling credit:
If you are a pay as you go mobile
user, you will need to have calling credit available on your mobile phone
to use Simtext. Your balance can be obtained by dialing the number provided
to you by your service provider.
Registering and Downloading Simtext
If your GPRS settings are correctly configured, you can join Simtext
by sending us a text message. Go to www.simtext.com to follow the process.
Once our system has received this request, we will send you a WAP push
message containing a link which will allow you to download Simtext onto
your mobile.
Open the WAP push message
and press 'YES' to start the file download. Then press 'Open' to download
Simtext, when it has downloaded press 'Install'.
Finding Simtext on your phone
Simtext is stored in the ‘Applications’ folder on your mobile.
To access the ‘Applications’ folder, first press the Menu
key to be taken to the phones main menu. Here you may need to scroll down
to the ‘Applications’ folder, depending on its position on
the menu. See below to create a shortcut. Open the folder and you will
see that it contains the Simtext application. Open Simtext and start sending
messages.
Shortcuts and additional settings
Once Simtext has been installed successfully on your mobile phone, you
may wish to:
1. Create a shortcut to Simtext - to make it easier to access
2. Set 'Web access' to 'Allow' - to allow messages
to be sent more easily
Creating a shortcut to Simtext: To create
a shortcut to Simtext, press the Menu key to open the main menu, and scroll
to ‘Applications’. Then select Options > Move. Then, using
the scroll key move the folder to the top of the list or grid, and select
OK. Then to access Simtext from now on, you simply have to select the
Menu key, and then open ‘Applications’ and Simtext.
Set ‘Web Access’ to ‘Allow’:
Setting ‘Web Access’ to ‘Allow’ means that you
don’t have to do this manually each time that you send or receive
a message.
To ‘Allow web access’ highlight Simtext in the applications
folder. Then select Options > Settings > Settings > Network connection
> Options > Change > Allowed > OK.
Troubleshooting
Problems downloading Simtext
If you receive the WAP push message from Simtext, but are unable to successfully
download the software onto your mobile, you can download the application
manually.
This is achieved by going
to your normal SMS Inbox, where you will see a ‘Service msg’
titled Simtext. If you scroll to the service message, then select Options
> Download message, your phone will make a GPRS connection and you will
be taken to a Simtext WAP page. The application should download automatically.
However, if you’re still unable to access the WAP page, your GPRS
settings maybe incorrect. See ‘Testing your GPRS settings’ for
more information.
